Premier Ford has Some Big Plans for the Toronto Waterfront

Yet many local residents oppose the notion of disturbing the existing green space.

Will expansion of the Billy Bishop airport and the redevelopment of the Toronto downtown waterfront change the complexion of our city for the better? Will it improve or hurt real estate sales at the bottom of our city?

There have been lots of condominiums built down by the water over the past decade, but that rapid pace of development seems to have slowed down somewhat. We know that there is a long-term plan in for Ontario Place including the new Science Centre and recent talk of building a new much larger Convention Center on the waterfront. There are also two very tall condo buildings being built by the base of Yonge Street that should near completion very soon.

I think that all of this progress is good. The port lands redevelopment is unfolding very nicely. I am also very pleased to see the much-needed Ontario subway Line currently under construction. It will serve a section of Toronto that has been ignored so I am happy to see this improved transportation corridor. It has always been mind-boggling to me that our subway did not go to the Exhibition grounds or the Soccer Stadium.

There will always be folks that are put out by change. People do not like to see disruption in their immediate area, but I have always believed that it is necessary for forward progress. We are hosting the World Cup in a few weeks so I think that if we are going to be a World Class City, then we should start acting like one.
