Toronto AirBnB update
Hosts will have to register with the city.
The City of Toronto has announced that everyone interested in renting their premises on AirBnB will have to register with the City on a new webpage that will be ready this Spring. More details will be made available over the next few weeks.
This registry is intended to ensure that individuals will only rent out their principal residences as per new rules that were announced last year. Landlords who own duplexes, triplexes or multiplexes that they do not live in, are not allowed to rent out their suites through AirBnB or any other short-term rental sites.
Under the new rules, people can rent up to three bedrooms in a unit for an unlimited number of nights per year (up to a maximum of 28 days per stay) or their entire home for a maximum of 180 nights per year. People who do not follow these guidelines and who do not register with the City can be subject to fines and/or charges.
